Great News From Our Melbourne Mayor UPDATE Margaritaville Is Coming
Dated: May 27 2022
Margaritaville Landing and Riverwalk unanimously approved at Melbourne City Council’s first reading. Here are the in-depth details on this state of the art low impact development project. As I work to improve the low impact development standards in Melbourne, I am very pleased that Melbourne’s Margaritaville will follow a low-impact development standard that makes this project very unique. This includes strict stormwater management to control runoff through an underground vault system under the parking garage. The large event lawn will be made of artificial turf with French drains and nutrients harmful to the Lagoon will be retained on site - a low impact development best practice. Built to withstand category 5 hurricanes, the 221 boat slips will include a marina store and an electric boat charging station. The sea walls and floating boat docks are public access and designed to habitat fish and marine wildlife. There are also future plans to attach a riverwalk feature to the north on US1 by our City. The hotel will contain 146 rooms, multiple restaurants with panoramic rooftop bar and the pool area will have a tiki bar and numerous shades. The stage area is designed for local entertainment and the lawn can hold approximately 1,000 people and 14,000 square feet. The event lawn is also multi-functional for various events. There is also a 4 story parking garage on the south end of the property. As you Mayor, and Melbourne native, I assure you that in the past 4 years I have worked with this developer, to not only bring in a quality destination, but build a project that sets the high standards for future low impact development that will help bring back a healthy lagoon. This project will have the second and final reading at our next Council meeting on June 14th and construction will begin immediately. Again, the project development and planning stage has been nearly 4 years. This includes obtaining all stringent Federal and State permits. I want to personally thank members of the Marine Resource Council for coming out to discuss the project and their support for low impact development and improving the health of our Indian River Lagoon. +10
