Michael Baker came to Martin County in 1980 from Panama City, Florida where he served in the United States Coast Guard for four years. He spent the next twenty years commercial fishing. During this time period he was very active in the community of Port Salerno. He served on the board of the original Neighbor Advisory Council for eight years, and he was the founding president of the Port Salerno Commercial Fishing Dock Authority. Under his leadership he negotiated and procured three ten-year leases with Martin County along with creating the Working Water Front to ensure the culture of the commercial fishing activity remained in Port Salerno. He also created the Port Salerno Sea Food Festival. Which has become one of Martin County's biggest events. He negotiated the cancellation of Martin County's "Last Man Standing" ordinance which now allows the fishermen to perpetuate their membership. He served on the board of the original Rivers Coalition, concerning of the water quality from the discharges into the St. Lucie River.
He spent fifteen years on the Federal Take Reductions Teams for Bottle Nosed Dolphin and the TRT team for Right Whale and Humpback Whales. He negotiated the terms for a large area off Cape Canaveral to insure Commercial Fishing activity and production took place which still stands today. He was the President of the South East Shark Fishermen which was his main activity and production.

He is the founder of Saw Palmetto of South Florida and has become one of the largest saw palmetto collectors on the east coast of Florida.
Mike sells Residential and Commercial properties. He has certification in Luxury Home Marketing. Mike has experience in negotiations; his real estate endeavor has proven productive due to his effective straight talk approach.
